Miami Day 3: Aug. 22nd

This morning we grabbed some pastries form a French bakery across the street from our hotel, a couple cafe con leche's from News cafe and headed to the beach. It was a good day for it, plenty of clouds in the sky giving us a little break from the scorching sun. The lifeguard towers here are very colorful, totally reflecting the SoBe vibe. The beach was quiet at 9am which was perfect for us. The clouds give the false impression that it was a cool day, but trust me it was soooo unbelievably hot... as the weather person on tv said it's 33 but feels like 43... so true
These boats weren't as close as they seem... Jay took these pictures with the 200X lens... Miami port sure is a busy one..
Some birds enjoying the beach as much as we were...
The ocean was a bit wavy today but nothing crazy... I didn't think... however the lifeguards felt the waves combined with undercurrents were sufficiently strong to potentially cause some harm to someone... they constantly were whistling at people and screaming over their megaphones for the swimmers to come nearer to the shore on the sandbank...
beach patrol on the job...
I brought this shell home.... one of several of my beach finds....
We had lunch at Big Pink... the food was great and the portions huge. A day on the beach sure makes one hungry, I forgot to take pictures of our meal... too bad it was good. I had Southern Fried Chicken Salad and Jay had a Churrasco Wrap with Sweet Potato Fries.
I did take pictures of our drinks... pink lemonade for me and a root beer for jay...
We then went for a walk on Ocean Drive... and I snapped some more pictures of the beautiful hotels...
I love coconut trees....
guy with a snake...
Throughout our walk we kept seeing these colorful flamingos... sort of like the moose in Toronto...
A lot of restaurants here have the mist sprinklers on their patios to keep everyone nice and cool...
I found this odd but its very common here for restaurants to display their specials of the day for the walkers by to view, and hopefully see something they like and eat at the place....
At some places the happy hour was from noon to 5... really that's not an hour that's an afternoon... and with drinks being as expensive as they are I'm sure plenty of people took advantage of it...
I was wondering if the temperature was actually accurate.... it sure felt like it...
One of the most popular modes of transportation here as well as in Key West... scooters...
continuing on with our hotel tour...
Casa Casuarina aka the Versace House...
hotel under renovation...
sighting of our Beach character... today wearing a fishnet unitard...
more hotels...
from Ocean Drive we hit the famous Lincoln Road mall....
we stopped by Ghirardelli for a sundae...
Very Berry delicious...
then we kept on enjoying our walk...
even here you can find the cheeky t's....
not quite sure what he's pointing at here...
another flamingo...
dangerous....no?... but one has to keep cool somehow...
not as colorful, but still pretty....
this is a school... so pretty...
Miami Ink shop... the boys weren't in...
even the post office is nice...
and so is the police station...
another colorful flamingo...
We made it back to our hotel eventually to relax for a couple of hours... took showers and at about 9 headed out for dinner at Atlantic Bar & Grill on Ocean Drive... started off with some drinks: Mai-Tai and Long Beach Iced Tea... nice, strong, delicious...
This time I remebered to take pictures of our meal... Jay had the steak night special...
and I had Sapore Di Mare aka seafood pasta... two thumbs up...
Next door the party was just getting started...
many people (well men) were taking pictures of her.. but she only stopped dancing and posed for me :)
wow ain't that a beauty... well tropics do have one drawback... :)
