last Saturday: Earth Hour

We were out and we were hungry... luckily earlier in the day Jay made a reservation at Veritas. This place prides itself on local and fresh cuisine. The restaurant was in the Earth Hour mode... electricity was turned off, even the music... lots and lots of candles created a very cozy, intimate setting. The place was packed... we started out with some drinks... Jay had the beer...
our bread basket... the dip tasted like home made ranch dressing... it was very good
Our appetizers:
I had the Toasted Cornmeal Crusted Yellow Perch with Veritas Relish... this was delicious... the fish was so delicate.. I wish I could have some right now... the relish was composed of cherry tomatoes, roasted garlic cloves, and big caper berries... yum
Jay had a sandwich... a Roasted and Pulled Berkshire Pork and Aged Cheddar Grilled Cheese... wow soooo good... perfectly toasted, crunchy and sweet...
we had some Ontario wine...
and another bread basket... did we mention we were hungry...
For our Mains...
Jay had the Walnut and Bee Pollen Crusted Ontario Lamb Rack with Candied Sweet Potato and Rosemarry Jus ... now he ordered it medium rare... this while delicious unfortunately was not .... Jay's veggies ... heavenly...
I had the Roasted Chanteclaire Rouge Chicken with Chorizo Sausage Bread Pudding and a Confit of Browned Beurre Beets ... wow and here I thought my mom was the queen of meat well done... this was super crispy, and no chorizo sausage on the plate... however the vegetables were spot on, perfectly done...
after a while time for a cappucino for Jay...
Dessert:
for me a poached pear with sweet wine ice cream and biscotti... pear and ice ream delicious... biscotti... yuck...
for Jay a slice of carrot cake with mascarpone icing... Jay's verdict "I've had better".
Over all Veritas definately deserves a second visit. There were some very tasty moments that I want to experience again inspite of the few bad ones... maybe they can get the app person on the meat station :)
