Sushi Train for dinner

Jason treated us to a little bit of spa today…

Pedi and mani for me (it's my name day today) and a much needed pedi for Jay. Look how nice they look. I love my toe color.. orange nail polish is my all time favorite…

Fireworks...

Italy put on a good show… too bad we couldn't find the radio station in time that played the music.. only Cherry didn't enjoy them..

Dinner: Friday June 29th, 2007

Participants: Kinga, Jason, and I (sadly Lisa couldn't make it... off to enjoy the cottage life for the weekend.)

We started off with a new drink: Gin Fizz... very nice... refreshing.. I never thought I would enjoy gin.. but I do...

Dipping sauces: tomato basil, peanut, sweet chili ginger soy
and chipotle aioli

Nicely toasted crostini... sliced by Kinga... look how nice and even they are

Seared ahi tuna on a bed of sautéed mushrooms with wasabi-cucumber-sour cream sauce

along with a few more appetizers, fresh crab cakes, risotto cheese balls and Jason's fresh veggie wraps... sooo good

For dessert I made mini cherry almond tea cakes... those were fun to eat...

Dinner at The Keg

While watching tv one night, a commercial for The Keg came on. It was all about their summer lobster fest that is happening till Aug 19th. Since then I couldn't get it out of my head, so yesterday we went to satisfy my Keg craving… it was so delicious. We went to the Keg at York, because it's the most amazing one… we contemplated between the patio and the inside, and decided to eat inside since the weather was a bit unsure. Our waiter was excellent, perfect combination of informative, funny, and attentive.

We started our night off with a couple of drinks a straight vodka martini with a twist for me and rye and diet pepsi for Jay, along with a bottle of bubbly water.

Since the last time I ate that day was around noon, I was a bit on the hungry side. Our waiter brought the bread basket over, but we didn't touch it because The Keg has jazzed up its menu a bit and so we decided to have appetizers instead.

Sweet Hot Calamari - lightly breaded and fried, topped with a sweet and spicy ginger garlic sauce.

It was wonderful, the calamari tender, not greasy, mmm delicious.

Ahi Tuna - grilled rare, served with a mushroom reduction drizzled with a cucumber-wasabi sauce and crostini

This also was fabulous. I thought the mushroom reduction was going to be a sauce not actual mushrooms, and I thought the cucumber-wasabi sauce was going to be drizzled over the tuna not the mushrooms.... lol... but who cares it was amazingly tasty. Jay is thinking of making it for the girls next time they come over for dinner.

While we were enjoying our apps the waiter brought over a little dish of butter set over a candle for our lobster I guess… but we didn't need it since neither one of us went with a lobster that would need to be dipped.. so I used it for some of my steak.. it was quite good. I forgot how salty, salty butter is… nice seasoning.
For the main I went with Sirloin and Lobster Thermidor – steak grilled medium rare paired with a half shell of lobster that was stuffed with chunks of lobster in a mushroom cheese sauce. I passed on the potato and had veggies instead. I also had another martini with my main… vodka complements red meat and seafood perfectly.
Jay had the Seafood Sirloin – garlic sautéed shrimp, lobster and asparagus in a white wine butter sauce served on top of a medium rare steak… the loaded baked potato is in the back. Jays plate also included half of a tomato with some melted parmesan cheese on top. Jay complemented his main with a nice big glass of merlot.
Wow, everything was so wonderful. For dessert we shared a slice of blueberry cheesecake… it was so good I remembered to take a picture after we ate it all. Seriously The Keg has one of the best cheesecakes I've ever tasted, it's so creamy, it just melts in your mouth… mmm… I wonder if they make it themselves or order it in…

"We are more like waves than permanent things"

".... think of an experience from your childhood. Something you remember clearly, something you can see, feel, maybe even smell, as if you were really there. After all, you really were there at the time, weren't you? How else would you remember it? But here is the bombshell: you weren't there. Not a single atom that is in your body today was there when that event took place... Matter flows form place to place and momentarily comes together to be you. Whatever you are, therefore, you are not the stuff of which you are made. If that doesn't make the hair stand up on the back of your neck, read it again until it does, because it is important." - Steve Grand
