It's was a good book. My teacher gave it to me at the end of 6th grade 18 years ago (and I still have it)... but that was another life time. Good luck searching for it... I'm sure eventually you'll stumble upon it :).

Thanks Lucy;)

Could you please tell me in few words what is the book about (main story plot)? That is, if you remember anything after all these years;) At the moment I think of buying Verte on internet auction (it's available), or else, searching at local retail stores.

From what I know about Mniszkówna as a romance writer, I could expect a tragic and passionate love story, but I've found absolutely no clues on the internet about the plot:/

Anyway, congratulations on your lectures' list, there's a wide variety of writers you've came to know;)

It's a story about a woman named Elza (her name has a dot over the z) and the love triangle between, her, Tomek, and Artur. Tomek is a country noble and Artur is a wealthy foreign man. The book is basically about her having to choose between obligation and promise that she made to one, or to go with her heart that belongs to the other. I've never read anything else by Mniszkowna, so I'm not sure of her style, but this book sort of has two endings because no matter whom she chooses there will be heartbreak but also a happy ending for the one chosen.
